The church has been silent for too long in the political arena. In the last Michigan election for governor, 70% of Christians failed to vote. This is a glaring example of poor stewardship of civil and governmental responsibility.
You may ask, “Isn’t getting involved in the political arena illegal, concerning our 501c non-profit status?” The answer is NO! We cannot support openly a party or person but we can present the political platforms for both sides and we can address issues that have moral and Biblical significance.
Abortion is one issue the church must address. The Bible has strong teaching on the sanctity of life. The most vulnerable life is in the womb and it must be protected. Attached is a flier describing the Fetal Heartbeat Bill. This bill simply states that if a heartbeat is detectable, the baby is protected. Six states have passed this bill.
This bill is now being introduced in Lansing. It has a good chance of passing the state house and senate but Governor Whitmer is expected to veto it. Does that mean this legislation would be dead in the water? No! If we can get 400,000 signatures in favor of this bill, the governor’s veto can be overridden and this bill will become a Michigan law.
Two special guests, Mark Gurley and Randy Hekman, will be presenting information and answering your questions. Both have been active in the political arena for many years.
