Even Crummy Kisses Can Be Sweet
Family reunions seem to change every year. I knew it was going to be a difficult one this year, because two of my precious siblings are now in heaven. We definitely were aware of their absence and I found myself struggling to keep back tears. Now it's just me and my three younger, fun-loving brothers to watch over this crazy clan. We are very blessed to have lots of young moms and dads, and they've produced the cutest little people you have ever laid eyes on.
I've written about Lucas (my adorable little grandnephew) before, but he seems to have worked his way so deep into my heart that I can't resist writing about him again.
Lucas, now 5, was the first to run and greet me at the reunion. He pointed to his missing teeth and I had to ask if he made a haul from the Tooth Fairy, and of course he did. Apparently Tooth Fairies are giving much better rates nowadays.
We chatted a while before he headed off to play with his cousins under the sprinklers. After cooling down, Lucas needed a cupcake break, so he came to the table where I was sitting.
He convinced me I needed to have one too because they were so good. So we chatted as we shared our cupcakes. Then he hopped off his chair and headed around the table to where I was seated - so fast it took me off guard when he threw his arms around my neck and mashed my lips with the sweetest cupcake kiss I have ever had. Then to top it off he looked up at me with those big brown eyes and said he loved me.
My brother was sitting across the table giggling at the fact I still had cupcake residue on my face, and commented on that being quite the kiss. We laughed and I said, "Man, I love that kid."
Then Lucas ran up to me again and said, "Hey! Want to do a sleep over?"
To which I replied, "Sure, but you better ask your mom first."
He ran over to his mom and with innocent excitement said, "Mom! Can Aunt Judy do a sleep over?"
She turned and looked at me and answered with a little twinkle in her eye,"Only if she wears really fun jammies."
I gave her my thumbs up. He smiled a huge smile and again my heart melted.
Did you know our crummy kisses are also sweet to our Heavenly Father, and that He loves it when we just spontaneously tell Him how much we love Him? His heart melts with love like any caring father, when we take time to look up to Him with innocent hearts and ask if He'd like to do a sleep over.
Father God, this has been a reminder to me of how sweet relationship can be. Please forgive me when I didn't take time to chat with You over a cupcake or was too busy with others to notice You were sitting and waiting for me to come and love on You.
This little guy has once again been such an example to me of love. I pray I will always be a loving example to him.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven."
Blessings, Pastor Judy
